Frequently asked Questions
Got any questions.................
How do I book a consultation or get started?
Getting started is simple. The first step is to book a garden consultation, where we'll visit your garden, walk around the space with you, and take the time to understand your needs.
We'll talk about what you enjoy most about your garden, any challenges you're facing, and how you'd like it to develop. This helps us create a personalised maintenance plan that works for both you and your garden.
You can book a consultation through our website, call us on 07724 933806, or email hedgerowhort@gmail.com.
How do you charge?
I charge by the hour for all maintenance work, at this time I'm not offering fixed contracts. Gardens are constantly evolving and their needs change depending on the season, weather, and daylight, so we adapt our time and approach to suit what your garden needs. Feel free to get in touch for my current rates.
Do you remove waste?
I don’t take waste away as part of our service. Instead, I try to manage it on site wherever possible. That usually means setting up or using a compost system, which is great for your plants and local wildlife. I also promote chop and drop practices for non invasive plants, this acts as an extra mulch and as it breaks down, feeds the soil. For anything that can’t be composted, I use council green waste bins. Woody material can often be shredded, stored and re-used as plant supports, and autumn leaves collected to make leaf mould.
Do you take on one off jobs or garden clearances?
Not at the moment. I am focusing on ongoing garden care rather than one off jobs or full clearances.
Do you bring your own tools?
Yes. I arrive with my own hand tools and the basic equipment needed for most jobs. If anything more specialist is required, I can arrange to hire it at your expense.
How often should I have maintenance?
Most gardens benefit from a weekly or fortnightly visit during the main growing season in spring and summer, although this depends on how high maintenance your garden is or becomes over time. Before agreeing a schedule, I’ll carry out a thorough assessment of your garden so we can recommend a rhythm of visits that suits its needs. This usually drops in frequency over autumn and winter, and we can adjust things throughout the year depending on how involved you’d like the care to be.
What happens if it rains on the day of my booking?
Light rain usually isn’t a problem and work will go ahead as planned. If the weather is particularly bad or unsafe, for example heavy rain or freezing conditions, the visit will be rearranged.
Will the same person come each time?
Yes, it's only little old me! Regular visits by the same person help us get to know your garden properly and work in a way that suits your preferences. On very rare occasions I may call in some extra laccies for help with heavier work, but that will all be pre-arranged and priced separately.
What makes Hedgerow Horticulture different from other gardeners?
As a qualified horticulturist with over 20 years of experience, including work in prestigious RHS gardens, I offer more than routine garden maintenance. I provide thoughtful, long-term care tailored to your garden.
Using fully organic, chemical-free methods, I work with nature to support healthy plants, thriving soil and local wildlife. By getting to know your garden through the seasons, I can anticipate its needs, make informed decisions, and care for it proactively rather than simply completing a list of jobs. My goal is simple: to give you complete peace of mind, so you can relax and enjoy your garden knowing it's in experienced hands.
Are you insured?
Yes. I hold Public Liability Insurance, so your property and any third parties are protected while I'm working in your garden. I am also a member of The Gardeners Guild nd work to organic and regenerative principles throughout.
