Garden Consultancy

Expert advice, tailored to your garden. A garden consultation is an opportunity to ask questions, solve problems and explore ideas in the setting that matters most, your own garden. During a relaxed visit, we'll discuss whatever you'd like help with. Whether you're choosing plants, planning a new border, improving your soil, managing an established garden or making your space more welcoming to wildlife, the session is entirely shaped around your needs.

Common topics include:

  • Planting advice and plant selection

  • Garden maintenance and seasonal tasks

  • Organic gardening methods

  • Gardening for wildlife

  • Plant identification

  • Soil health and improvement

  • Troubleshooting garden problems

  • Planning future projects

  • Designing herb gardens and productive planting schemes

After our visit, I can provide a written summary of our discussion, including recommended plants, useful resources and further reading, so you'll have everything to refer back to whenever you need it.

Garden Mentoring

Practical guidance to build your confidence.

Reading about gardening is one thing; learning alongside someone in your own garden is another.

Mentoring sessions are designed for gardeners who want to develop practical skills through hands-on experience. I'll work with you, demonstrating techniques before guiding you through them yourself, so you gain the knowledge and confidence to tackle similar jobs independently in the future.

Alongside practical gardening skills, I can also introduce you to the traditional medicinal uses of many common plants and herbs. Whether you'd like to establish a medicinal herb garden, learn how to harvest herbs sustainably, prepare them or understand how herbs can support pollinators and other wildlife, mentoring sessions can be tailored to your interests.

Sessions can cover:

  • Pruning roses and shrubs

  • Dividing and moving perennials

  • Planting trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants

  • Establishing medicinal and culinary herb gardens

  • Herb propagation and seasonal harvesting

  • Composting and improving soil health

  • Organic gardening techniques

  • Creating wildlife habitats, including ponds and meadows

  • Wildlife-friendly garden management throughout the year

You can book a single mentoring session for a specific project or arrange regular visits throughout the seasons, allowing you to build your skills over time. Written notes can also be provided after each session.
